An animation of a string's first six vibration modes, with their nodes, their frequency and the fret where each harmonic sounds.

This animation shows the sixth string vibrating in its first six modes. In the first it vibrates as a whole; in the second, in two halves; in the third, in three thirds… The points that don't move are the nodes. Each mode sounds at a whole-number multiple of the fundamental, and the caption tells you which fret gives you that harmonic.
